Since 99.4 percent of all energy in Taiwan depends on imported fuel, the government can’t freeze the electricity rates and subsidize energy consumption. The hike is based on user-pays principle. However, the amount of increase is too drastic to bear, so President Ma urged all the citizens to endure the current hardships, promising that he will ask the state-run firms to review its purchase contracts and reduce their waste.
由於台灣百分之九十九點四的能源均仰賴進口，政府無法一直凍結電價並補助能源消費。這一波油電漲價是基於使用者付費原則。然而，漲幅之大似乎人民無法接受，所以馬總統呼籲國人須共體時艱，並承諾將要求國營機構應將採購契約透明化，並減少浪費。 |
